USDA Accredited Lab

Does your breeding program extend to the European Union or the United Kingdom?

Would you like to produce ICSI embryos in the USA and ship them to the EU or UK?

Our lab can help you achieve your goal.

The Vet ART ICSI Lab is a USDA-accredited Embryo Production Team (EPT) that is allowed to produce and export ICSI embryos to approved EU and UK facilities.

How does it work?

Although embryos are produced following the same high-standard protocols, certain differences need to be taken into account. To ensure compliance with EU regulations, we must follow established guidelines by the USDA. Please read below before you initiate the process.

To begin, the site where the oocytes are collected needs to be a USDA-accredited facility, referred to as the Oocyte Collection Team (OCT). All oocytes transported to us from the OCT need to be sent along with documentation and records of the mare’s health status, diagnostic testing results, and date and place of oocyte collection and identification.

The semen that will be used for fertilization (ICSI) must also come from a USDA-accredited facility, and should have documentation and records of the Stallion’s health status, diagnostic testing results, and date and place of semen collection and identification.

Once in the lab, the culture incubation of EU embryos takes place in separate and EU-dedicated incubation chambers of the MiriTL incubator system. EU oocytes and embryos are separated from non-EU tissues at every step in the production process.

We also maintain strict frozen storage of EU-destined embryos from non-EU-eligible embryos by using dedicated liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage tanks for each category.

Once embryos are produced and frozen (vitrified) in our lab, we can arrange shipping to the desired EU or UK facility.

If you have any questions, contact us before you initiate the process to make sure we follow all the guidelines and requirements.
